I did't say they would, but they should. I don't think that the ACD Museum would ever let this rusty cobbled-together old "camper" in their doors~~~
Not really. But I can imagine a museum which has various separate displays, including unrestored cars and even the sad parts of the brand history like a heavily molested car. I didn't have the pleasure to visit the ACD museum, yet. But I'm sure it doesn't consist of "concours show quality" cars only. Otherwise it wouldn't be much more than a permanent concourse d'elegance which I might find a little one-dimensional compared to other international car museums. But I'm sure it isn't and definitely worth the trip. Can you imagine this "camper" sitting next to a concours show quality Model "J" Duesenberg in that grand old Museum's showroom setting ? ? ?

Kay wrote: To be honest: I wouldn't scrap the body. Of course it's ugly as sin and of course it hides the scarce Cord and Auburn parts, which others could use.
On the other hand: which vehicle could better symbolize that there was a time, when our beloved cars were worth close to nothing. A time when in Europe Bugattis were scrapped to use their engines in some agricultural equipment. A time when in the USA Cord L-29s could be scrapped to build campers on their chassis.
I know, many of you will laugh a this suggestion, but in my opinion such a vehicle belongs into the ACD museum. It should be the mission of a brand related car museum to show all aspects of the brand's history. And (whether we like it or not) this camper symbolizes a part of the ACD historys, although it's a sad and extremely ugly part.
History doesn't come beautiful all the time.

I hate to say it~~~but I will !

I have a Much Better Idea !
Here's is an idea just for Chris ~~~
He likes to dabble a bit at gormet cooking~~
If you painted it Duesenberg engine green, and cut a big wide & high rectangular hole in one side and install an awning, neon Auburn~Cord~Duesnberg Club sign , counter, & fridge + cooking equipment it could be converted into~~~
The "Official" Period & Parts Correct~~~ ACD Club's Mobile Hot Dog & Gormet Pizza Vendor Wagon ~~~
to be used Only during the ACD annual Labor Day weekend meet, show & fest !
And also possibly at the exclusive Pebble Beach Concours~~ If they choose to invite it !
Another Idea~~~
Sell it at this winter's Barrett~Jackson's Scottsdale Auction Event~~ for crazy money ~~as E.L. Cord's own personal L-29 Cord caravan/camper.

The left fromt headlight on this "Camper Van" looks like it might be a rare Hall brand "Drumlight" that was used on Rolls~Royce Sprigfield and other large autos.
See if anything in engraved on the top of this Drumlight headlight.
I think this "camper beast" would get more attention being parted-out or at the very lest without that ugly "Camper" van body.
Scrap that big body & sell the chassis & parts.
I doubt that a standard auction house would be the best place to sell ANY of these Cord parts ?
I don't think they will bring any real money there ?
ebay auction ~~~Yes~~~but it would take forever to sell + pack & ship everything you have there !
It may be far better to sell the entire parts lot you have to a Cord Culb Member here or a Cord restorer or Cord restoration parts supplier.

It looks like the top number is 1147. The bottom number is 489212.
I am going back down to the warehouse where the "camper" is stored and will try to get some better pictures tomorrow.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this. I appreciate your help!

I am also interested in any thoughts you might have about the viability of selling an item like this at auction or other ideas about how to best get this into the hands of someone who will make use of the parts.
