I ended up writing to Kughn Enterprises, Inc who I believe owned the Carail collection. Someone there (Bob Ferrand - is that the Bob you were referring to perhaps????) kindly sent me a photograph of the car which is quite similar to the one I've been looking for.
I'm going to use this as a partial reference so hopefully can finish the drawing.
I'll post the finished thing on the forum for comments.
Thanks
Mark

As far as I can see the Carail collection is closed and sold off now, but I could be wrong. I've got no idea where to look for where bob and Debbie might be. Can you help?

Thanks for this. I'll try to find some way of contacting them (unless you have details??)
It certainly worth it. I can't have my wife still feeling bad after 23 years can I!
Many thanks

Thanks very much for this.
My full drawing is actually of all of the car but I've cut it off in the one I've posted. The two pictures will definitely help get the overall rear end shape right and will help draw some of the less detailed chrome parts too.
Maybe I'll be able to mix together some 'tree/road' reflections from some other car pictures taken outside!
This shows that there are other pictures around, so fingers crossed I may still yet find the real one.
Thanks again.

Hello mcdc,
that car was offered in 2000/2001 by a classic car dealer in Germany.
I found via a "wayback machine" (internet archive site/search) this announce (from 2001) with a lot of pictures of the car from different angles. One or two of them (in the middle and last picture) could be helpful for you.
Here is the link (I hope it could be opened in the US): web.archive.org/web/200206210018 ... attail.htm
Cheers
Matt

There are many similar spectacular Model "J" Duesenberg photos here on the ACD website !
I suspect you will find a similar great photo here that will work for you ~~~

Thanks for the information. I think I've seen a lot of the recent auction pictures. I'll contact Worldwide to see if they hold other pictures.

Thanks for the complement. I (and definitely my wife!) would like to see it completed. I've looked for 23 years and won't give up yet.

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, from a drawing perspective, the most important part to make it as realistic as possible is the reflection in the chrome work. This is almost impossible to improvise. Given that I have the front right wheel and the spare to do this would ruin it.
I know the chances of finding the correct picture are remote but the picture I posted above looks like it was taken at the same time as the one I used as the reference so I'm hoping other pictures from that shoot are still around. (I'm not holding my breath though)
Thanks to all.

It appears that you are more than 80% completed already .
From the photo you do indeed already have, despite the incorrect angle persective, you should be able to complete this fine drawing compensating for the proper similar shadows, & reflections, on the incompleted car side, top, side-mount spare, & front wheel areas ~~~I would think ?
The odds that someone here has the exact image angle you seek of this exact auto, with proper sunlight shadows, reflections etc; is remote ~~ at best.
Good Luck~
Please post the completed drawing !

I'm far from a Duesy expert but I believe this car is J-134/2159. It sold at the Worldwide auction in Houston in 2010. Perhaps this information will be helpful to you in your search. Maybe Worldwide has a photo of it from the correct perspective or close?
Good Luck!

Seven years have past since I last asked for help finding a lost picture I was using as a reference for
a drawing (which my girlfriend - now wife) threw out before I could finish it.
I have finally found a picture of the exact car with the correct number plate ( Michigan 199 x 48 )!
This is shown here...
I found the picture on this website www.autowp.ru/picture/249738
This site has several other pictures but the reg plate has been removed so are probably newer pictures.
I've found the same pictures on many other sites but never the one I'm after...
However, the picture above is not from the correct angle and so all the shadows/reflections etc. are
wrong meaning it's no good to get the drawing finished. I'd appreciate any help finding the exact
picture I need. Pictures from other angles (with the roof up) may help though.
Part of my drawing, now 23 years old, is shown here:
Here's hoping that someone can help me this time around.
Cheers
