Mike, The prototype was made in 1937. So when asked you can reply the "real Cords" were made in 1936 and 1937!
Jim
P.S. Sorry I couldn't resist!

So Jim. when someone asks when 810-12 Cords were made do we say 1936-1938?

Gary, The 1938 Cord was a prototype that was made in 1937. After it was done and photos were taken it was turned int a 1937 model 812 and was sold. When it was being restored by it's present owner he noticed several differences from standard model 812s. after much research they found out it was the 1938 prototype and that is how he restored it.

Mark, Peter Morgan (Cordura) here. A very good source for fabric and leather is Bill Hirsch Co. in New Jersey. I don't have his phone number, but he is always in Hemmings magazine or on line. Most beautiful airplane on the planet!

the true meaning of orphaned car.. Seems like it would be lonely looking for another and most difficult finding one off parts.

With brakes, two cylinders are better than one.

Wasn't only one 1938 Cord made? I have seen pics and was reading about how it differed from any 36 or 37. Slopped back grill. Smooth trans cover.. Was not the Classic Cord look but still a nice Cord.

The last Auburn was made in 1936 and the last Cord in 1937.

1939 Beechcraft Staggerwing Aircraft Interior Restoration was created by 39Staggerwing
We are currently attempting to authentically restore a 1939 Beech Staggerwing and have been referred to your club as a possible resource. We have information that during that period, there was an overlap between auto manufacturers and aircraft manufacturers with regard to interior upholstery, leathers and carpets. Specifically our airplane used,
Seats and Ceiling - Aristocrat Parma Blue #9725
Sidewalls - Lackawanna Leather Blue HC 307
Carpet - Laidlaw # C-2300
We have reached a (hopefully temporary) dead end with the Beechcraft archives and are attempting to tap the knowledge base of some of the car clubs. We are trying to present the airplane just as it left the factory in 1939 and any help or direction you could point us in would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Mark Holmquist
