Probably the radiator core and there is no way to clean it .the hose from the water pump to the radiator needs to have a stiffener in it some it will not collapse while driving either some sort of tubing or a spring wire.

Is car running retarded or too far advanced? Check timing. One way to check rad. is to take off lower hose and plug rad. outlet. fill with water and remove lower plug and see how fast water enpties from Rad. fast flow out is good. Slow flow out is pluged rad. Also reverse flush out block and see what comes out. I use rad. filters in all my old cars. Keeps particals from plugging up rad. Good luck. CORDially MIke

From you description this sounds like the water pump is loosing blades but only by removing the water pump can prove this. Another WAG is the radiator is plugging up with corrosion. If these cars do not run true distilled water they can end up with the solids found in most water dropping out like the scales in a used tea kettle. Wait for others closer to the Auburn engines than me. I'm mostly a Cord person.

1928 Auburn 8-88 Radiator was created by vicfreg
Hi.  Our 1928 8-88 is running hot.  This summer, the car started pushing water out of the radiator cap when the temperature was in the mid-80's.    Discussing this with my Uncle, who has owned the car for about 60 years, he remembers finding a metallic piece in the top of the radiator a couple of years ago and removing it.    He seems to think was some kind of "baffle".   From our discussions, it also appears that this problem has been getting "worse" over time.
The radiator was last cleaned/tanked about 60 years ago.   Before we pull the radiator, I wanted to get some more information.  So, my question to the Forum is whether anyone has had this experience and what they did about it.  Also, does anyone have pictures, sketches, drawings of what the internals of the radiator look like?  Any reputable radiator businesses that you would recommend for a refurbishment of the radiator if that is what is needed?
The car has a "GS" series engine and the radiator is original with the car.  The tag on the radiator indicates it was made by the Jamestown Radiator Company.  It has 2 radiator hose connections, one at top dead center, and one on the lower passenger side.
Any insights/lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
