I thought I'd seen springs like these before apparently it was done on early stock cars to lower the rear without changing the spring rate.

A customizer in the old days heated the springs with a torch. Definitely not original.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Looks like Cord 810 812 spring shackles are the same design as on Auburns. Makes sense to have drawn them from the same parts bin too.
As for the modified spring shape it must have looked like a good idea at the time.

I'm pretty sure it's not factory, not good spring action and probably not to durable!

Take a look at the bend in these Auburn 851 rear springs. I guess it's cheaper than the factory lowering blocks.
