Here is a great original photo of a non-black car that has a painted frame to match - and spiffy BF Goodrich Silvertown Double Whitewalls too. www.shorpy.com/node/19187?size=_original#caption

One of the best things I ever did was spend some time with Jon Bills at the library for the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum - and then I wrote a big check and he had the photos professionally enlarged for me. What all too happens is people are looking at reprints of reprints of .. in all the wrong size to really see the detail on the cars. When two original "factory" engine photos of an 851 Speedster engine came up, I did not waste a second to buy them (incredibly rare) - they and a literal half a handful of others now have become the standards in which "100 point" cars are being restored by. I see a lot of Cords with painted frames to match X color, but there certainly was black too (for sure on a black car painted).

L29 Cord was created by Rlamb10769
Question: Was all L29’s underchassis painted from the factory with matching color as the exterior or were some painted black?
