WHAT IS THE JIM BROCKMAN COLLECTION? was created by acdclubadmin
This collection of photos was donated to the ACD Club by long-time Canadian ACD Club member Jim Brockman. Jim has been a member since 1962 and was known as the ACD Club Canadian Historian. He spent a lifetime collecting these photos through arduous research. He first went to the libraries of Toronto and searched through the back issues of newspapers looking for ACD cars for sale. He started with newspapers in the 1930?s and continued into the ?40?s and ?50?s. Most of these ads only listed telephone numbers, so he went to the old phone books to look up names and addresses to go with the phone numbers. After this he wrote personal letters to each person, usually including a $5 postal money order to facilitate a response. Through these letters he was able to get many of the photos in his collection. Most of these photos have never been published as they are home pictures taken by the owners.
Jim also authored several articles in the ACD Newsletters and received the Fred Benson Media Award in 1996. These articles can easily be searched on the new ACD Club DVD of all back Newsletters (orders are being taken now.)
The ACD Club Board of Directors would like to thank Jim and Joyce for donating his collection. Thanks also to past Board member Murray Hall for directing Joyce to the Board.
Thank you to Mike Huffman for scanning thousands of these original photos.
