Temperature graphs available on climatestations.com report LA temperatures as low as 45 degrees F during November 1935, which might explain the abundance of warm clothing in the photo. Now I'm conviced the photo was taken in California.

Probably from the Pan-Pacific Auditorium, which opened in May, 1935. Here is a later show, there.(1938, I think) The Pan-Pacific was eventually owned by E.L.Cord. (who left it under the direction of the Henderson Bros) When it opened, in 1935, it was owned & run by Cliff & Phil Henderson. (well-known for being the Director of The National Air Races, 1929-39) They also put on Extravagant auto, aircrraft and boat shows/Exhibitions at The Pan-Pacific, and in Chicago, St. Louis, and Cleveland. Cliff had very close ties to E.L. Cord and used MANY Cords and Auburns as personal cars, VIP cars and parade cars for huge parades and National Air race events, throughout the 30s. He was sometimes called "The Master of Ballyhoo," and was heavily supported by the press, so there are likely many press and photo archives of his extravagant shows/Exhibitions.

I can almost hear Josh's wheels burning rubber towards LA... :D

Great picture. I love the look on Reo Kid's face, too. (1935 was Reo's very last gasp, so it was probably best the guy switched allegiances.)

When they said people stood on the other cars to see that may or may not have been true, but look at this crowd and the phaeton is behind stanchions. Ironically, the photographer is standing on something - and love the look on the kid's face that is apparently a REO fan (bet this ACD product soon converted him).

It is from the Public Archives of the Los Angeles Public Library - a whole series of these photos marked 1935 (which may be of significance being that the car was introduced in November 1935 at the NY Auto Show), but this is the only one that I could make out an ACD product - my guess is where there is smoke there is fire (someone needs to go in person and speak to them).

John,

Thanks for posting the great photo. Judging from the clothing, it must have been quite a cold day.
