I have no idea Curt as I don't know much about phaeton or cabriolet tops.
However from my understanding of the Judging Rules only standard Factory paint and trim combinations were available. Supposedly no Factory information on specials has ever come to light.
Reading through the Factory Engineering Changes the following statements were found.
Page 34 Note: All regular cabs and phaetons paint and trim as present. ( Elson )
Page 36 1/20/37 Correction on Paint and Trim Combinations for 1937 Cords, Dated 1/11/37
Top Material listed on the Ivory Cab and Phaetons reads Black and should be regular Light top material. When Black is used it will be special. ( H. Elson )
From these two specific statements one must conclude that "Specials" were in fact available from the Factory.
There may be more information in the Engineering Change Notes that I have missed but the statements are there in print.
I would appreciate further comment on this topic.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Do you suppose the top is that greenish grey salt pepper variety ?

I agree Mike, the valve positions of the wheels have moved considerably.
If you zoom in on the wheels you can see good reflections in the hub caps.
With more research a general floor plan of the buildings could be worked out.
Wouldn't it be great to have a virtual reality tour of the Factory?

These three pictures were obviously taken inside the factory in Connersville but I do not know the exact location within the buildings. This cabriolet has a rumble seat however if you look closely at the rear of the car the bumper over riders can be seen pointing down. This is rather odd as I understand rumble seats were not fitted in production yet it appears to have been set up with a late production rear bumper. Another Cord curiosity!
Note the Auburns in the background of the first picture.
