January 2 1974 - E. L. CORD PASSES was created by Bill Hummel
On 1/2/1974, 34 years ago, my Grandfather, E. L. Cord passed away. We were in Reno, NV at the time. His wife, Virginia, and his three daughters were in attendance.
I was 21 years old at the time and working for his radio and televison stations in Reno; KCRL-780AM and KCRL-TV NBC-4.
In the five years prior, we had spent many enjoyable afternoons at his home. The cars were not a frequent topic. Most talks were about the future and how to conduct yourself around others in both business and personal relationships.
Here's a couple of photos you may not have seen:
Eugenes was one of his favorite restaurants in Reno. From left to right: My mother Sally, my father Peter, my Grandmother Virginia, Virginia's sister Lola May "SIS", E.L., other two daughters, Susan and Nancy.
Publicity photo when E.L. was a State Senator. John F. Kennedy on right is shown during a Young Democrats tour. On the left is Senator Allan Bible.
