If the gas tank is being "boiled out" that tells me that the car has sat for a long period without being driven. You should probably expect to do a complete recommisioning of the car when you recieve it. Such as brakes, cooling system, fuel system, all fluids, tires, tubes. Many cars are "restored" to look good but the mechanicals get short changed. I would want to know if the cars smokes and what is the compression in each cyl. These are questions I would want to know if I was not going to see the car in person. These are just general comments as I do not know any thing about this particular car.

There is a user on this site with username "dtresenreiter" who is in Hamburg and owns a 1931 8-98A sedan. Perhaps you can contact him for more local thoughts.

I've feel comfortable around 60/65 mph with a 35/36 SC in high range. That may be a better fit for the Autobahn.

If you really like Auburn, my advice would be to join the club and watch the newsletter.

Although it is capable of much higher speeds, in my opinion the 33 is most comfortable at 55 mph and under. Not really an Autobon flyer, more of a back road cruiser.

I had my old 33 Auburn up to about 75 mph just to see what it was like, but was not too comfortable with it at that speed. Perhaps because it had wooden wheels.

Below is an email I received from Juergin Walter, a collector from Germany.
Any help you can give him would be appreciated.

Hallo,
my name is Juergen Walter, I am a private collector from germany and I
like very much the US prewar cars of the depression era ca. (1930-1935).
I own two Buicks 1930 - 33 a chevy 31 and a Jaguar XK 1956. I have read
a lot about the great US-makes and now I found a beautiful Auburn 1933
phaeton for sale over St Louis car Museum. Here in germany Auburn is not
very well known, and of course I can get no information here. I am glad
that I found this page. I would be very pleased If somebody can give me
some tips and experiences about this model and perhaps about this car.
What is important to pay attention to . I am looking for a really good
driver car, not for concours, but reliable like all my other cars. I
drive them as often as possible. In the past I spent my time under the
car, now I want to have fun with driving. Is this model able to drive
300 Km a day on german autobahn and next day back , without trouble . A
funny question, I known, but I think you know what I mean.
I am looking for any reply a appreciate any info
Best regards from germany
Juergen
