Well, appears that although the bearing looked good, all the play is coming from the rollers... have ordered new bearing and race... NAPA doesn't have any close.. so, taking 3 days to get them out of Wisconsin. <!-- s:-( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":-(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:-( -->

Thanks Mike.
I am going to tear it back apart this evening and see what shims are in there.
I thought it was strange that I haven't messed with it, the bearing is fine, but all of a sudden started making the noise with the movement.
Maybe I'll go ahead and get new bearings and check the shims as well.

Thanks!

Troy

Hi Troy, According to the owners manual the
end play on the wheel bearing should not be more than .005 and should be checked every 5000 miles. If yours is .030 it is way out of specs. Are you checking it with a dial indicator? It seems to me if you would shim the wheel bearing to the proper specs. the drum would not move and hit the brake shoes. Remember the Hoosier Tour is coming sooner than you think.
CORDially Mike

Rear axle movement/noise was created by auburn653
Developed a noise in the left rear wheel when turning to the right.
Seems that pressure is being applied to the drum, and drum/axle shaft are moving toward differential about .030 or so, allowing the drum to rub on brake shoes. Turning left does not produce the noise.

I took drum off, backing plate, etc., pulled axle shaft and wheel bearings. Everything looks ok. Repacked bearing, and put back together. After putting backing plate on, tried to push on axle shaft. Didn't appear to move. After putting drum back on, drum and axle both move now...so, back to where I started.

I had replaced the wheel bearings 10 years ago, and haven't had any issues since.... so, same spacer is behind the backing plate etc.

Any ideas how to resolve? 35 6 cylinder dual ratio axle.

Thanks in advance!
