Hello Jack,

I have located the article you referenced and linked it here for all to see:

Sorry the file is kind of large, I could not shrink it any further.

GOOD EVENING FORUM FOLLOWERS,
I JUST HAVE TO CHIME IN ON THIS THREAD ABOUT THE BUBBLE-TOP
CORD MODEL 812 PHAETON. IN THE DEEP RECESSES OF MY AGED AND
FEEBLE MEMORY BANKS I RECALLED A CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE
WHO HAD AN EARLY ENCOUNTER WITH THIS VEHICLE AT HERSHEY, PA.
AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT A BIT I REALIZED THE PERSON WITH THE
CONTACT WITH THE CAR WAS OUR FELLOW ACD CLUB MEMBER AND
MODEL 812 CORD OWNER PETE MORGAN OF BEAVER, UTAH. I HAD A
CONVERSATION WITH PETE A FEW MINUTES AGO AND REFRESHED THE
DETAILS OF THE ENCOUNTER. PETE AND A FRIEND OF HIS WERE , IN
1965 , ENGAGED IN COMPETITIVE AND DRIVING OF SAAB 2 CYCLE
FRONT WHEEL DRIVE AUTOS AND PETE NEEDED SOME PARTS FOR HIS
1931 BUICK COUPE SO THEY DROVE ONE OF THEIR SAABS OVER TO
THE HERSHEY SWAP MEET. WHILE THERE THEY ENCOUNTERED THE
OPEN CORD WITH THE PLEXIGLAS ROOF INSERTS. PETE RECALLS THAT
THE OWNER/DRIVER WAS A GROUCHY FELLOW BUT HE AND HIS FRIEND
WERE OFFERED A RIDE IN THE CORD AROUND A CINDER SURFACED
HARRIER TRACK AND WERE THEN ALLOWED TO DRIVE THE CAR AROUND
THE SAME TRACK. IT WAS ONLY THE SECOND CORD 810/812 THAT PETE
HAD SEEN , AND THE FIRST HE HAD DRIVEN. HE WAS DULY IMPRESSED.
IF THIS CORD WITH A UNIQUE HISTORY IS THAT WITH ENGINE #
FB 2447 , AS SUGGESTED BY BRAD WAKEN'S POST TO THIS THREAD ,
THEN IT MAY CARRY SERIAL # 1827H. RON IRWIN'S MASTER CORD LIST
HAS A NOTE INDICATING THAT THE CAR ORIGINALLY HAD A REAR SPARE
TIRE AND INDICATES THERE IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF
THE CAR IN THE ACD CLUB NEWSLETTER FOR MAY, 1970 AT PAGE 18.
PETE MORGAN THINKS HE HAS A NOTATION AS TO THE NAME OF THE
MAN WHO HAD THE CAR AT THE HERSHEY SWAP MEET IN 1965 AND IS
GOING TO GET THIS INFORMATION TO ME. PERHAPS THE ABOVE REFER-
ENCED CLUB NEWSLETTER HAS THIS INFORMATION. INTERESTING CAR.

The July 1950 Motor Trend has a small picture of this Cord on page 8, in an article by George Finneran. I remember also seeing an article about the car, probably in another '50's era MT.

Brad is correct. The only thing I can add is that Lee remembered that he did the work i the late 1940s. He told me that he used a Dodge rear window and that the roof panels were war surplus plexiglas.

This car was reportedly FB2447, originally built for Barbara Stanwyck. This was equipped with a rear "Continental Kit" spare tire. According to the records, Lee Richardson created the removable top in the mid 1940's.

Cord with removable Top ? was created by silverghost
There was a photo of a Cord with a removable hard Top, or at least the front portion of a top with glass or plastic panels inset into it, just posted on the AACA forum.

The photo appears to have been taken from out of a book.

Here is a link~~~

forums.aaca.org/f156/where-cord- ... post835464

Does this unusual removable top, or inset panel glass/plastic top Cord still exist ?

How many were originally built ?

Was it an aftermarket top like the tops built by Parrish Plastics for the early solid axel Corvette roadsters ?

Very odd & unusual indeed !
