Attaboy, Fred. (Incidentally, I have never removed the tranny magnetic drainplugs fur-free.)

150 days till you (and I and other west coasters) hit the road for Auburn. It's gonna be a Convoy!

Thanks to all who have chimed in. I've managed to change out the trans/diff oil, and have more "fur" than I hoped for on my magnetic plugs, and bottom of the filter. At least there are no chunks!
I'll get cracking on the CV joint juice as soon as I return from a small road trip this weekend (not with the Cord).
Thanks again, RF.

Fred, I use a special CV joint grease from NAPA. It comes in a clear bag and is also furnished in their CV joint book kits for repair on modern CV's. For adding grease I load it into a grease gun and add without the zerk fitting on the end of the hose. It is somewhere between a bearing grease and gear lube and is formulated to stick to the joints. It is getting harder to find since CV boots have improved on modern cars and new or rebuilt half shafts are most common now.

SPO-277 is what I have recommended for years, Mike. But Fred wanted a lube to put in [i:qzol13pr]today[/i:qzol13pr]. Bearing houses, which is where one typically buys Lubriplate products, rarely stock SPO-277.

Incidentally, I am currently trying out SPO-MG, which is the multi-vis in the SPO line. I'm doing this at the suggestion of the president of Lubriplate, who answered the phone himself one day when I called their tech suppport line. Says he does this every so often to stay close to the customers!

Red,

I suggest that you search the 810/812 forum for u joint lubrication....your likely to find a few different suggestions. There have also been some excellent articles in past newsletters.

I also think that you will find lubriplate SPO 277 is a favourite gear lube of Cord owners.

CORDially, Mike

I have had my Richardson joints in place for nearly 20 years, so I can't help. Check with George Arakelian and Stan Gilliland.

OK, I just ordered a few books on Amazon just now, including 2 of yours that I wasn't aware of. Could you suggest a concoction for my original U-joints so I can take care of them today also?
Sorry we missed you on this Saturday's outing. It was a real eye-opener!
Thanks, RF.

Sorry, Fred. No U-joints in the book. Motorbooks really needed to sell it to the general old car driver, so I had to talk generic in most cases.

Great! Thanks Josh. Changing out the fluids is on my to-do list today. I was worried about which additives top avoid, as I understand some are not friendly to brass, bronze, and other non-ferus metals. Would the "Hypoid" type be OK in our application? And was wondering if this book covers our CV joints?
Thanks, RF.

Look for a multi-vis (something like 85-140) with a GL-4 rating. (Look on the back of the jug.) GL-5 is OK only if it includes MT-1 (as in GL-5/MT-1). Read the book for more details.

The book sounds good. But I'd like to change my transmission oil today. Any suggestions on which oil to run in the shared transmission/differential gears?
Thanks, RF.

For motor oil I use Shell Rotella T. Don't throw junk zinc additives in that nice oil.

Read "How To Keep Your Collector Car Alive". $7-19 on Amazon. Much good stuff on these subjects. Cord photos in there too.

P.S. I get no more money because they have fully paid me.

I'm about to change my trans oil also. Was wondering what oil to use, and more importantly what oil NOT to use! Same goes for the U-joints.
Thanks, RF.
