like the Canadian National Exibition supercharged cord phaeton, one of only two delivered to my home town in Toronto....now in the great USA.
like the only canadian built Pierce Arrow convertible coupe....which we have the complete history from new....owned once by the founder of our Canadian Tire Corporation, who had a right of first refusal on the car when he sold it to another Canadian. poached from our country 40 years ago and still owned by the same family in the great USA.....when the fellow discovered his right of first refusal had not be honoured and the car sold to the USA he asked the bloke....why the heck did you do that.....the reply.......you could never have afforded the price that American paid me for that car!!!!!!
like the Cadillac V16 limousine built especially for Sam McLaughlin, the founder of General Motors Canada......currently in the USA.
like the 30s one off Rolls Royce two seater Phantom coupe, thought to be the finest looking RR coupe of the period, ordered knew from England and imported into Canada by a founder of Imperial Oil whose home was in London, Ontario, not 2 hours drive west of my home town in Toronto. currently residing in the southern USA.....
like the 1939 Alvis speed 25 purchased new and imported into Canada by a grandson of the president of our Bank of Montreal, one of the top 5 banks in Canada and in the top 20 in the world, also a descendant of the famous Red Path Sugar dynasty.....now owned by a gentleman in California.
like the 1940 Cadillac V16 convertible coupe purchased new by a gentleman in Montreal, Canada, one of only two in the world, currently owned by the Off Brothers.....
the list goes on......
sure, we have pried a few good cars loose from America....but what is good for the goose is surely good for the gander!!!!!
you have our cars.....and we want em back.......so maybe we can trade you back some of your treasures.....for some of ours....ha ha.

Just because it's an American-built Cord, that doesn't make it a national treasure. A treasure, yes. A national treasure, no.

soon a amarican Collector asked me to sell.
was it right to sell a world wide unic example and specialy related to Switzerland history wise ? The answer is no !
Then i started to folow the rumors, that an other one is still existing of these 15 original cars, luckyley 2 years later i found it and sold it to that collector.
was This right ? yes because one would remain in Switzerland and one went back to the homeland of GM.
In case you would keep all L29 in the USA, prices would go down and everybody could afford one.all the Mercedes 300 Gullwings would go back to Germany. In the case of Jaguars, the british would drown in Jag's and you wouldn't be amused if all Ford's and Chevy's would returne and i'm quite sure that no US resident wants a EDSEL back ! <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
The more i know, the more i realize that i don't know enough.

Oh I forgot we are all about the damed $$$ now! Don't get me going on this, it just opens a BIG BAG of worms with me. Why don't we all try to change this, The NATIONAL TREASURE thing. Save this County's HISTORY right now and DONT LET IT LEAVE THIS COUNTRY!!!!
I'm not sure, but maybe it is because this is a Free Country, with private property rights. So people are allowed to buy and sell stuff at will and do with it as they please.

I'll send you the photos, but that really is about the same as first loading onto another site. Many forums allow one to "search" their own computer to find the photo to upload. Am I missing that here?
I'm guessing we'll eventually get the same software upgrade to make our forum operate like AACA's. You'd have to ask Bill, though.

The really sad part is that not only is it locked away, but locked so that no one outside of royalty is allowed to see it. What kind of "national treasure" is that, when the nation in question is now allowed to see it? Sounds to me like it's more of a private hoard.

You're not going to want to hear this, but I have heard on good authority that...
"the car was purchased in Auburn in the early 1980s for King Hassan of Morocco for his birthday ... anything acquired under these circumstances becomes a ?National Treasure? of the country and is therefore never allowed to leave. In 1987 the Pebble Beach Concours tried to get all the custom-bodied L-29s onto the lawn ... but the Moroccan government refused to let this car leave the country. King Hassan has passed away and the throne went to his son and supposedly a more open form of government has evolved. a couple of strong attempts were made to purchase the car in the late 1990s and then again a few years later. There was no potential movement in terms of the government letting it go (as it is seen as part of the royal car collection that is completely private and not open to non-royals. No one has seen the car since it left this country in the early 1980s."
Sad but true
(I'd post a few more photos, but it's too much work to go through whatever process is necessary to do that here)
