George Whitell's boat was created by Steve Derus
Today I attended the wooden boat Concours at Lake Tahoe. On display was the "Thunderbird", a 55 foot Hacker commissioned by George Whitell. I've seen numerous pictures of this boat, and I know it was owned by Bill Harrah, but until today I didn't know that Bill Harrah purchased it from George Whitell.
The boat is an absolute work of art.

So now I'm wondering, did any Model J engines find their way into speed boats in the 1930's?
I read that in 1914 Duesenberg brothers built two V-12 marine engines that were installed in a boat that was the first to achieve 60 mph on the water. Did those engines survive?
I think Jay Leno should build a wooden speed boat and run his engine in it.
