Hi Randy,

Can you clarify if J-146/2139 was originally sold with Derham Sedan coachwork?

I can't seem to find any other reference to this having been the case other than in this thread, and this question has recently been asked of me on a Duesenberg page I manage of Facebook and I'm at a total loss for an answer.

Anything you can help me with would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

~ Brian

It has been reported that in 1964, Homer Fitterling purchased the original Derham Sedan body from J-146 / 2139, and somebody fitted a Murphy convertible coupe body of unknown origin to the chassis.

Duesenberg's are supposed to leak oil. For one they have a constant loss chassis oiling system, also they do not use seals in the engine. There are just screw threads on any protruding shafts in an attempt to twist most of the oil back into the engine. Dripping oil probably wasn't a big deal in the gravel road era that they were built.

the car from the pictures from Chateau Loučeň Concours d´Elegance is definitely not J-219.
See more pictures below. It is two-tone as mentioned above and it has the step on the left rear fender and on the right fender it doesn´t.
Does anyone know if the numbers J-146/2139 are correct?
thanks
Jan

When ever a drive any of my cars to someone's house I always park in the grass for the leak reason. As they say "If it doesn't leak it doesn't have oil in it."

Looks like the photo was taken at Hamden Court Palace, and they place pans under all cars reguardless of age or leaks. It's a great show, we took J-357 there two years ago. Ed Minnie

Looking at the first post, it looks to have two tone paint, body color looks more maroon with red fenders and hood top, maybe just the picture. Also doesn't have stabilators as in the photos you provided. Car also looks to have spring gaitors. Nice cars either way.

I believe the chassis number for J146 is 2239, not 2139. The car pictured above does look like J219. If it is, it has had some changes since it was for sale at Bonham's in 2009. Cowl mounted spotlights removed, different tires, chrome covers removed from the side mounts with rear view mirrors added to the tires, a step added to the left rear fender, and the addition of the pilot Ray driving light.

I believe that the below pictures of J219/ 2239 are from 2008 – 2009.
If we had some more information about when and where this picture was taken, it might help confirm.

Is this J-146, 2139? was created by HSS1929
Hi Folks, found a few photos on Flicker showing this car at a European Concours in 2013 and giving the "SN" (Serial Number) of 2139. From what I can see, 2139 was in fact a Murphy Convertible Coupe, however, there is only one mention of J-146 in the ACD Newsletter and it says the car had a Judkins Berline body as of 1975. Given this is the only mention of the car I am suspicious of the accuracy of this. Perhaps the engine was swapped? Any info on the ID of this car and/or J-146/2139? Thanks.
